Texas broke an energy demand record over the weekend as high heats rolled through the state. With summer underway, A/C units throughout the state are working overtime to keep everyone cool. However, this weekend a number of North Texans experienced power outages due to the heat, and now Oncor has responded.

With temperatures in the triple digits throughout DFW this weekend many were forced to deal with power outages, some lasting over 24 hours. “Oncor gave us an estimate of 7:30 which became 9:30 and then 12:30,” said Matthew Browning, a Plano resident that dealt with the power outages for longer than expected over the weekend. According to NBC DFW, Oncor was receiving calls throughout the weekend from all over the metroplex, with 143 outages reported statewide, affecting more than 3,100 customers.

In response to the outages, Oncor released a statement saying, “The record-setting heat is putting additional stress on our equipment. We have crews fanned out across our service area. They are working to make repairs as quickly and safely as possible.” Hopefully they resolve the issue, and outages aren’t dealt with all summer.
