There are many restaurants throughout DFW that can be considered "local favorites," but sadly one of them will soon be closing their doors for good. Fort Worth's Original Mexican Eats Café is one of the oldest restaurants in the metroplex. However, their original location will close next month after the owners and landlord were unable to reach a new lease agreement.
Original Mexican Eats Café was founded in 1930, and while they have since expanded, the original location at 4713 Camp Bowie Blvd has been open and operating ever since. However, that run will soon come to an end as the owners have announced the original location will close at the end of March. According to Fort Worth Star Telegram, the location at 1400 N. Main St.
will remain open.
"We cherish the five generations of loyal customers who have supported us through many decades, and we thank them for loving our enchiladas, tacos, tostadas, margaritas and laid-back ambiance," said owner Robert Self.
The restaurant has become known over the years for their chili-covered Tex-Mex and "Roosevelt Special" platter, named for presidential son Elliott Roosevelt. While this local favorite will soon be gone, at least their new location will continue the tradition.
