When cell phone use exploded in the earlier 2000s, one of the major dilemmas many parents faced was at what age was it appropriate to get their child their own cell phone. Since then cell phone use has only increased and now it has become normal for young children to have a cell phone. However, some Southlake Carroll parents think it has gone too far, and are now asking the school to enforce stricter cell phone policies.

Over the last few years, many schools have been forced to change their rules as students experienced remote learning. However, with many districts returning to normal, many of the old policies are being put back in place. While technology has been a big part of the learning experience the last couple of years, many parents think cell phone use is out of hand, believing their children need to get back to “quality” learning.

According to the Fort Worth Star Telegram, parents are hoping stricter cell phone policies are enforced as the district’s Student Health Advisory Council has recommended stricter rules as well. “We don’t want to have a distraction to student learning, “said Gordon Butler, assistant superintendent of staff and student services. If the policy changes; kids will just have to find a new way to not pay attention in class.
