For years, people have dreamed of the day that humans would be able to easily travel to space. With Richard Branson and Jeff Bezos recently making the journey to the final frontier, that day seems to be quickly approaching. There are currently two different reality shows in the works that want to send people to space, and they don't even have to be a billionaire to get there.
While reality shows often take a group of people and put them in an unknown setting on earth, two new series in the works are looking to take that concept to space. Both series will be competition based, with the winner getting the chance to travel to the International Space Station. According to CNN, the Discovery Channel is currently considering 'Who Wants to Be an Astronaut,' while the competing space reality series, 'Space Hero,' is still looking for a home network.
"As we go into space, we want to encourage entrepreneurs to do new things. And to utilize the extraordinary zero G of space to do all kinds of science, as well as entertainment," said NASA administrator Bill Nelson. For those hoping to travel to space, ''Who Wants to Be an Astronaut' is currently accepting applicants, while 'Space Hero' will begin looking for potential astronauts on December 21, 2021.
