For years, people said good pizza couldn’t be found in DFW. Luckily, that has changed in recent years, with some local pizzerias even getting national accolades. Now, a new pizza restaurant hopes to be the next to receive praise, as they come to town with a spot named after a Creedence Clearwater Revival song and a style of pizza never seen before in the metroplex.
The team behind Goodfriend Beer Garden & Burger House in East Dallas will soon venture to Garland for their next restaurant, a pizzeria called ‘Fortunate Son.’ Set to open in late 2023 in Downtown Garland, the new pizza shop will serve New Haven-style pizza. According to Dallas Culture Map, New Haven pizza is a thin-crust, coal-fired Neapolitan style popularized in New Haven, Connecticut.
"It's a little difficult to work with, but it gives you a crust that will get crispy, but still have a nice chew to it. They use really good tomatoes and really good mozzarella, and they cook the pizzas to a nice char on the crust,” said culinary director, David Peña. While the official opening date is yet to be announced, many in the metroplex are excited to try this new style of pizza. Maybe it will even become a DFW favorite.
