Summer has officially begun in Texas, which means North Texas residents might see their fair share of wild animals roaming around their yards.

We already know folks in Frisco have reported increased sighting in bobcats, but it seems it's time for Plano residents to remain alert, especially those with small animals they like to let out in the backyard.

Security camera footage from a house in Plano showed a bobcat sneaking up behind Boots, a 10-year-old yorkie.

A Plano named Jennifer let her yorkie out in the yard while she made coffee last week, when out of the corner of her eye she spotted the bobcat.

She told NBC DFW, "I was like, 'Oh my gosh, that's a big bobcat' and I couldn't my eyes.  I just went into mommy protective mode.

"It was spooky.  It was like being in National Geographic."

Thankfully, her screams forced the bobcat to scurry away, but not before it took a couple of swipes at her dog.

Karin Saucedo, a wildlife conservation photographer, says that bobcats aren't going away any time soon, and the best practice for any owner of a small pet is to always remain with them if they are outside.
