Traditionally there isn’t a lot of color variety with the jumpsuits inmates wear in jail.

Most times it’s a classic orange, or maybe even a neutral beige.

However, some inmates at Galveston County Jail have been issued pink jumpsuits, which jail officials hope will “foster a more positive jail environment.”

According to WFAA, jail officials cited four main reasons for the switch to pink jumpsuits:

-To discourage recidivism
-To enhance visibility for corrections officers in identifying potential threats
-To create a calming atmosphere because the color pink is believed to help alleviate feelings of anger
-To foster a more positive environment inside the jail

Galveston County isn't the first jail in Texas to assign pink unforms to its inmates.

A new sheriff in Mason County, northwest of Austin, switched to pink jumpsuits back in 2006, though inmates there also wore pink slippers and slept under pink sheets while surrounded by pink walls and pink bars.

Those inmates didn’t seem as eager to switch to pink as those in Galveston County did, as some told the Associated Press at the time they didn't want to go outside on work details where people would see them.
