The Texas Rangers are giving back to the community by helping six Arlington area students pay for school and prepare for their future. The team recently announced the winners of their Richard Greene Scholars Program. The students will receive a $10,000 scholarship and an internship beginning their senior year.
Since 1997, the Texas Rangers have been helping students pay for school through their scholarship program, and this year six more students will be added. The students represent each Arlington ISD high school and were honored during the Rangers game on Saturday. According to NBC DFW, this year’s winners are Emily Buchele from Lamar High School, Alexis Chukwunyere from Seguin High School, Brett Hoelscher from Arlington High School, Zoey Jackson from Martin High School, Cindy Luu from Bowie High School, and Maite Marin from Sam Houston High School.

The scholarship program, which is named after the former Arlington mayor, has provided more than $1.3 million in college scholarships to 138 Arlington ISD students. In 2018 the program was recognized by the MLB, winning the Allan H. Selig Award for Philanthropic Excellence. Now, these students will continue the tradition and hopefully will do something great in the future.
