A Texas woman has been sentenced to 13 years in prison after it was found she embezzled more than $595,000 from three San Antonio businesses in order to fund DoorDash orders, Disney merchandise, a California trip, and her daughter's cheerleading activities.
According to FOX 7, 49-year-old Monica Marie Padilla worked as a bookkeeper for multiple businesses during three separate periods between June 2021 and February 2025, where she had access to their bank and credit accounts and used several methods to steal money.
U.S. Attorney Justin R. Simmons called Padilla a "financial predator" with numerous prior convictions. He said in a statement, “An embezzling bookkeeper can do incalculable harm not just to the victimized businesses but to the lives of many innocent people. The monetary harm is usually just the tip of the iceberg in these types of cases.”

Padilla pleaded guilty to counts of wire fraud, mail fraud, and money laundering.
