A near mint-condition comic book has just broken a record after being sold at auction last week.

A copy of "The Amazing Spider-Man" #1, with a 9.8 "Near Mint/Mint Condition" grade by the Certified Guaranty Company, sold last Thursday through Dallas-based Heritage Auctions for a staggering $1,380,000, breaking the record for the highest price the issue has ever fetched!

According to the NY Post, only one other comic with the same grade is known to exist.  CGC President Matt Nelson told The Post, "For a buyer in today's market, to obtain a copy of this issue in a 9.8 could be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity."

A comic graded 9.6 of the same issue sold at auction last year for just over $520,000.

Upon its debut in 1963, "The Amazing Spider-Man" #1 sold for just 12 cents.
