Going to the video store to rent a movie for the weekend has been a tradition of the past for a long time now. Yet, some couldn’t quite give up the ritual, as a few video stores have remained. However, the last remaining video rental chain, Family Video, announced recently they will soon be closing for good.
Family Video had remained open despite bigger chains like Blockbuster closing years ago, but now they are selling their entire remaining inventory, and will shut down once they do. There were seven North Texas locations still operating, but soon those will close. “This was a ritual growing up, you go with your family to get movies and this is something I’ve instilled in my daughter as well,” said Family Video district manager Trevor Daane.
While many are upset to see this era come to an end officially, luckily there are more convenient ways to watch movies in 2021. Still, with Family Video officially shutting down streaming has officially won the war. Now it’s only a matter of time before something comes and takes that away.
