First trailer for Steven Spielberg’s ‘West Side Story’ remake unveiled

Not everyone is a fan of classic films being rebooted, but one it seems most are intrigued by is Steven Spielberg’s upcoming ‘West Side Story remake. After months of built up anticipation, the first trailer for the film was finally unveiled over the weekend. The trailer aired during The Oscars on Sunday, and some fans called it the highlight of the night.

Though production wrapped on ‘West Side Story’ back in October of 2019, delays have caused the film’s release date to be pushed back. With it finally set to be released in December, the first trailer was finally released and now anticipation for the film is growing. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Spielberg’s adaptation of the 1961 film stars Ansel Elgort as Tony and Rachel Zegler as Maria.

This has been a journey without precedence: a joyful, stunning, moving, endlessly surprising encounter with the story and score of one of the world's greatest musicals," said Spielberg. ‘West Side Story’ will finally hit theaters on December 10, 2021. Soon enough fans will be dancing along to the film.
