Connie Claxton first walked into a Whataburger in 1970 looking for a job, and she never looked back.

She was a young mother trying to balance raising her kids and commuting to a job in downtown Dallas.  The flexible hours of working at a fast-food restaurant sounded appealing.  And as an added bonus, she loved the hamburgers.

54 years later, Claxton is finally hanging up the spatula and apron, and saying goodbye to Whataburger after more than half a century of service.

She worked for Whataburger of Mesquite, Inc, which owned several Whataburger locations in Dallas and Kaufman Counties.  Last Wednesday was her last day with the company, which she spent working behind the counter at a Whataburger in Forney.

Her most treasured time with the restaurant was her 18 years working at a location in Terrell.  She told WFAA, "I became the general manager and was there approximately 18 years.  And I married one of my customers!"

To this day, Claxton still enjoys a junior burger every single morning.
