With so many reboots being made for film and television over the last few years, many have started to tire of the nostalgia based entertainment.
However, it appears Hollywood has found a new way to tap into that thirst for the past; turning classic games into movie franchises. Now, it is being reported that actor Vin Diesel is set to star in a film based on the classic game, ‘Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots.’
Not much is known at this time about the live action film based on the tabletop boxing game, but Vin Diesel has been attached to the film, and will produce alongside Mattel Films and Universal. This is not the game or toy IP Mattel will attempt to turn into a movie franchise, with plans for a Barbie, Barney, Hot Wheels and Magic 8 Ball movie as well. They have also teamed with Universal for a revival of the classic 90s television series ‘Wishbone’ as well, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
As for the ‘Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots’ film, Vin Diesel will reportedly play a father who, along with his son, forms an unlikely bond with an advanced war machine. The script was written by Ryan Engle. In no time, there will be 10 versions of this film.
