This year's special, which aired on ABC this past Sunday, November 26, was broadcast from The Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL, and featured holiday-themed performances from musical guests DJ Khaled, Andra Day, Tori Kelly, and of course, The Smashing Pumpkins -- with the latter offering up an unreleased song, "Evergreen," as their gift to viewers, as well as a cover of the holiday classic, "Silver Bells."
"I work in the world of professional wrestling and when you’re a big fan of professional wrestling, they call you a mark. I’m a Disney mark,” frontman Billy Corgan said in an interview before the band took the stage. "I collect old Disneyland items. I have stuff from back on the opening day in 1955. So, when they called me to come play Disney, I’m like, 'whatever you need.'"
While many families consider a Christmas holiday at Disney an annual tradition, Corgan and his crew have plenty of decorating to do at their own home when the seasons begin their greetings. Corgan explains, "We put up seven trees in our house, all decorated with vintage ornaments. So, as you can imagine, the week or so before Christmas is a full-time production. By the time we get to Christmas, we're so happy to get to Christmas because all that exercise of putting stuff up is over, and now we could just relax."
For those who missed the broadcast, on-demand viewing is available via Hulu and Disney+.
