Although Depp first dropped news of their collaborative project back in April of 2020, describing Beck as his "dear friend" and "brother… one of my all time guitar heroes,” Beck told his crowd in Gateshead, U.K. on Thursday night (June 3) that the duo would be offering the record in its entirety this July.
Johnny Depp has been taking the stage with Jeff Beck throughout his U.K. tour in between visits to the courthouse, helping out on guitar during Jimi Hendrix and Marvin Gaye covers. Last night, Beck told fans, "I met this guy five years ago and we’ve never stopped laughing since. We actually made an album. I don't know how it happened. It will be out in July,” reports The Guardian.
Beck is known for his early work with The Yardbirds (which also spawned the careers of Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page). Depp is not only an actor but also an established musician himself, as a member of the Hollywood Vampires supergroup. The duo revealed their first track in 2020, a re-imagining of John Lennon's "Isolation."
A full album track listing and official release date are still unknown, but Beck's got plenty of shows left on his tour to give fans more details. If you're heading overseas, grab your Jeff Beck tickets right HERE.
