PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - The Allegheny County Health Department is reporting a significant drop in COVID-19 case numbers after weeks of triple-digit positive cases being reported.
On Monday, 71 new cases are being reported, that is 129 less than on Sunday.
Six new hospitalizations are being reported.
The 71 new cases are a result of 741 tests.
The age range of the new cases are from 5 to 93 years old with the median age being 40.
The tests were conducted July 1 through July 12.
While the number of cases on Monday are lower, the health department says they are not "reading anything into a single low number.
They add that testing over the weekend is typically lower, possibly resulting in the decrease.
The county also says that the number of people being tested has increased, slowing the reporting process down.
The health department adds they are hopeful the new numbers will reflect a trend but it is too early to tell.
There are now over 5,000 confirmed for probable cases of COVID-19 in Allegheny County with 5,033.
Zero new deaths are being reported for the second day in a row.
Of the 5,033 cases in the county, 520 or about 10 percent are in healthcare workers.
The county reminds everyone to continue to wear a mask in public, frequently wash their hands and maintain social distancing.
The county has established a dashboard where you can see how many people have been infected in your community.
