WOONSOCKET, Ri. (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - CVS Health has announced it is opening 27 additional drive through coronavirus testing sites in Pennsylvania, eight of which will be in the Pittsburgh area.
The self-swab tests will be available to people who meet the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention criteria beginning Friday, May 22
Patients will stay in their car and be given the test and a CVS Pharmacy team member will watch the test take place to make sure it is done correctly.
Testing will be covered by insurance and those without will be covered under a program funded by the Department of Health and Human Services.
“As we move into a new phase of combatting the pandemic and as communities begin to safely open up their local economies, we need testing to be easily accessible,” said Troyen Brennan, MD, MPH, Chief Medical Officer and Executive Vice President, CVS Health. “By further expanding the number of drive-thru test sites available across our retail network, more people can be tested closer to home in a familiar setting.”
CVS says they plan to have up to 1,000 testing locations operational across the country by the end of the month with the goal of conducting 1.5 million tests a month.
