PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - As the coronavirus pandemic continues, stress and anxiety are on the rise.

"Do your best to try to stay calm and help people be present; because in the present moment, we're okay. Our fears come about what we're worried about in the future," Psychologist Dr. Christian Conte said on the KDKA Radio Morning Show.

One of the fears that people have is looking at the worst-case scenario in every possible moment.

"If a boxer goes to throw a punch, until his punch lands, you're not in danger at all," Dr. Conte explains. "That's a really important concept to understand because I don't want to worry about things before they happen."

A person can prepare, but it is important to focus on what he or she can control.

"Concentrate on the present moment because in the present moment, I'm okay - and that's powerful to repeat to yourself," Dr. Conte adds.
