PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) -- Astrobotic is expanding in Pittsburgh.
Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf made the announcement Wednesday that the space robotics company is moving its headquarters from Pittsburgh’s Cultural District to the North Side and adding 95 new jobs to its current staff of 20.
“With products developed in Pittsburgh launching to the moon, companies like Astrobotic show the world the innovative work being done right here in the commonwealth,” said Gov. Wolf. “By investing in that innovation, we’re investing in the future of technology, the future of jobs, and the future of industry.”

The newly acquired building on Lincoln Avenue will have enough space to construct the company’s first commercial lunar lander, which will deliver payloads to the moon for business, scientific, and social applications.
“Pennsylvania is leading our country back to the moon. We are thrilled to build our new headquarters in the heart of Pittsburgh,” said Chief Executive Officer of Astrobotic Technology, John Thornton. “The facility will be purpose-built to operate landers and rovers to the lunar surface starting with our first mission in 2021.”
Astrobotic was originally based out of Carnegie Mellon University and is sparking a new era of exploration, science, tourism, and more.
