PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Pittsburgh is playing a major role in Phase 3 trials for the Moderna Coronavirus vaccine money.
The vaccine showed promise when after the initial trial, all participants developed virus resistant antibodies.
The United States has already invested nearly $1 billion into Monderna's vaccine program, and intends to spend another $472 million to help speed up the creation of the vaccine.
As of Monday, over 4.33 million people have been infected with COVID-19, nearly 150,000 have died and 1.3 million have recovered.
The trials will take place in various other cities across the United States and is the largest COVID-19 vaccine trial in the world.
30,000 people are expected to participate.
