Pittsburgh Police Officer Fatally Shoots Dog While Helping Man With Seizure

PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - A Rottweiler attacked a Pittsburgh Police officer trying to assist to the dog's owner early Sunday morning.

 The officer was called to a home in the 3000 block of Ashlyn Street where a man was reportedly having a seizure.


The dog bit the officer's leg, knocking him to the ground and as he to stand up, the dog lunged again and the officer shot and killed the animal.

The officer then helped the victims until EMS arrived and took the male to the hospital in stable condition.

The officer was also taken to the hospital and treated for his injuries.

Both men were later released.

Police say "Animal Care and Control will take possession of the deceased dog."
