PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Rivers Casino on the North Shore will close for 14 days due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 coronavirus.
In a statement the casino announced Friday evening the complex will close for 14 days beginning midnight Sunday, March 15.
On Friday evening the casino released the following statement:
"In the best interests of our Team Members, guests and the Greater Pittsburgh community, we are temporarily closing Rivers Casino Pittsburgh effective Sunday, March 15, at midnight for fourteen days. Although there have been no known cases of COVID-19 at the property, we are suspending operations out of an abundance of caution and to promote the social distancing recommended by health officials. Employees will continue to receive pay during the closure."
"The health and well-being of our Team Members, guests and the residents of Western Pennsylvania is our highest priority. We are grateful for their continued support," the casino added.
Online gaming will continue at BetRivers.com.
On Friday, Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto announced effective Monday at 9 a.m. crowds of 250 or more would be prohibited.
