PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - Highway construction projects resume on Monday and so does work zone speeding enforcement.

The goal is to protect construction workers in highway work areas.

Three months into the highway construction season and some 30,000 notices have been mailed to owners of vehicles caught speeding.

The first notice is just a warning.

It's a $75 fine the second time, $150 following that.

PennDOT and State Police give you a heads up. They use a white Jeep Grand Cherokee equipped with a camera.

A camera will be deployed at various times on I-579, the crosstown expressway near PPG Paints Arena. Also I-70 in Washington County, Route 51 in Beaver County and I- 80 from the Ohio line to mile marker 7 in Mercer County.

Radar and computers assist in catching anyone going at least 11 miles an hour over the work zone speed limit.
