State lawmakers will soon consider a bill that would limit cell phone use while driving. The House Transportation Committee unanimously passed the bill that would require only hands-free usage.
"We want drivers to use the cell phone in a docking station, or on a speaker and not hold the phone, or support the phone, with any part of their body," Republican State Rep. Rosemary Brown said, who sponsored the bill.
If the bill becomes law, offenders would get a $100 fine, but no points on their license. It would be a primary offense, meaning drivers could be pulled over for it. At least 25 states already have similar laws.
