The City of Pittsburgh is looking for artists this year to be commissioned for new public art projects throughout the city.
The Public Art and Civic Design division of the Department of City Planning will spend $800,000 for public art projects in 18 neighborhoods.
The city says this will be the largest addition of new public art in decades.
Funding for the projects will come through grants and funding in place for city projects.
$500,000 of the funding will come from the Allegheny Regional Asset District (RAD) Art in Parks program.
"We are excited to announce these upcoming opportunities to enhance public art throughout the city," said Mayor Bill Peduto. "Not only will these projects support our artists, but they also provide an opportunity to creatively reflect the values, character and identity of our communities."
There are almost 200 monuments, memorials and other works of art maintained by the city, currently. A map of the art installations throughout Pittsburgh can be viewed here.
