Flood waters continue to cause problems around Pittsburgh area

Pittsburgh has closed public parks, trails as flood waters continue to rise.

Pittsburgh officials have closed off public parks and trails.


The Lower Allegheny Riverfront Park along the 10th Street bypass, The Northshore Riverfront Park, and The Mon Wharf Bike Connector are all closed.

Point State Park in downtown Pittsburgh has risen high enough to flood the fountain.

The Ohio River in Pittsburgh appears to have crested just after 6 a.m. at 28.37 feet, just shy of the 28.5' major flood stage mark.

Accuweather Meteorologist Dean Devore tells the big K Morning Show thunderstorms could be on the way.

He says hail or small ice pellets could accompany the storms.

A flood warning is in effect until late Thursday afternoon.

The river will fall below flood stage late this afternoon, then to 19.2 feet tomorrow evening.

Name a county in the Pittsburgh area and there are communities with road closures and flooding after seemingly non-stop rain.

Other areas with flooding in Allegheny County include O'Hara, Shaler and Millvale.

Like its neighboring counties, there's a long list of road closures in Beaver County. People were rescued last night from homes in Franklin, Marian, and North Sewickley.

In Butler County, Connoquenessing Creek flooded areas of Evans City. High water was also reported in Harmony, Penn and Summit.

Flooding was widespread in Westmoreland County. Some of the hardest-hit areas Lowber and Gratztown.

And in Washington County, some residents in Union evacuated their homes.

As 11 a.m. Thursday, here are the roads PennDOT still has closed:

University Boulevard (Route 3109) at Stoops Ferry Road in Moon Township – Southbound lanes closed (due to a slide)

Route 837 (North State Street) between the McKeesport Duquesne Bridge in the City of Duquesne and McClure Street in Dravosburg Borough – Closed

Route 837 (North State Street) between New England Road in West Mifflin Borough and Curry Hollow Road in Dravosburg Borough - Closed

Saxonburg Boulevard (Route 1013) south of Berryhill Road in O'Hara Township – Closed (due to a slide)

Bunola River Road (Route 2001) between River Hill Road and Elkhorn Road in Elizabeth Township – Closed

Church Hollow Road (Route 2003) between Raccoon Run Road and Elkhorn Road in Forward Township

Ella Hollow Road (Route 2013) between Guffey Road and Rainbow Run Road in Forward Township - Closed

Walton Road (Route 3007) between Dale Road and Riverview Road in Jefferson Hills Borough – Closed

Beaver County

Route 51 (Constitution Boulevard) near the Aliquippa Bridge in the City of Aliquippa – lane restrictions
