PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation District 11 will be conducting inspections inside the Fort Pitt Tunnel starting on Sunday, Nov. 15.
The inspections will be done during the evening and nighttime hours, and closures will be required to complete them.
The Fort Pitt Tunnel will be closed off nightly from 10 p.m. to 5 p.m. as followed:
1. Sunday night, November 15 - Inbound (eastbound) closure
2. Monday night, November 16 - Inbound (eastbound) closure
3. Tuesday night, November 17 - Outbound (westbound) closure
4. Wednesday night, November 18 - Outbound (westbound) closure
5. Thursday night, November 19 - Outbound (westbound) closure
Incoming and outgoing detours will also be set up to circumvent the tunnel during the inspections.
The posted detours will travel as followed:
Inbound (Eastbound)
1. From eastbound (inbound) I-376 (Parkway West), take the ramp to North US 19/Route 51 West End (Exit 69C)
2. Follow North Route 19/51 (Saw Mill Run Boulevard) toward West End Bridge/Downtown
3. Exit towards Route 51/Route 837 toward McKees Rocks/West End
4. Stay in right lane to South Route 837/East I-376 toward Downtown
5. Continue on southbound Route 837 (West Carson Street)
6. Take the ramp to East I-376/North I-279 onto the Fort Pitt Bridge
Outbound (Westbound)
1. From the Fort Pitt Bridge, traffic will take the ramp to North Route 837/Route 51 West End (Exit 69C)
2. Follow Route 837 (West Carson Street) to the West End Circle
3. Turn left onto southbound Route 19/51 (Saw Mill Run Boulevard) toward the Airport
4. From Route 19/51, take the ramp West 376/South 19 toward Carnegie/Airport
5. Take the ramp to West 376 toward Carnegie/Airport
The inspection work is expected to take place until late November.
