Our bright yellow bridges downtown have become a symbol of pride for people in the City of Pittsburgh, but the promenade that lines them has been a scourge for crime, public drinking and drug use. It's a plain ugly sight, splattered with trash and graffiti, that mars the beauty around it.

Starting today, it appears that eyesore along Fort Duquesne Boulevard may finally be getting some attention from city leaders.  Check out the video on this page to see new fencing that is going up right now.

On a regular basis, pedestrians walking along this stretch have had to deal with harassment from people camped out along the built-in seats that are commonly referred to as "The Wall". In addition to the temporary fencing installed today by Public Works crews, there are plans tomorrow for cleaning to begin in the area.

Is this part of a bigger plan to address issues of vagrancy and crime downtown? I would like to hope so, but we shall see. When I get more information from the city on what's going on, you'll be the first to know.
