PITTSBURGH (100.1 FM and AM 1020 KDKA) The Allegheny County Health Department (ACHD) on Friday has scheduled mosquito treatments for West End neighborhoods.
The treatments will take place on July 27, and is a response to a recent test that found mosquito samples have tested positive for West Nile Virus.
A pesticide called Zenivex E20 will be sprayed by truck with an Ultra Low Volume sprayer and is not harmful to humans or pets.
While the spraying will help, it is still suggested by the ACHD that everyone protect themselves from mosquitos every way they can.
Getting rid of standing water in yards, making sure windows and/or screens are closed at all times, using repellant on exposed skin when out of the house.
Mosquitos are most active during dawn and dusk.
According to the CDC, between 70 and 80% of people who contract West Nile Virus do not feel symptoms nor are impacted.
Some symptoms, however, include fevers, head and body aches, joint pains, vomiting, diarrhea, or rashes.
There has not been a reported case of West Nile Virus in Allegheny County since 2018.
