It’s the holiday season, we are in-between Christmas and the New Year, so I thought I’d take this time to express some thoughts on ketchup.
Like most Pittsburgher’s, I take pride in things and products were born here in Southwestern PA.
Commercial radio (Hey, that’s us!), Klondike bars, The Big Mac, banana split, The Jeep, the polio vaccine and Heinz!
But, does it always have to be Heinz?
The fine people at oneBURGH have created an alert system to let people know when a business doesn’t offer Heinz Ketchup.
The “Code 57” is a clever and fun way for people to share their encounters with off-brand ketchup.
But I wanted to confess something, with hopefully not that many people reading (with the holidays and all).
I don’t mind when a restaurant doesn’t have Heinz. It’s actually nice to try a new ketchup every now and then.
Now, I would never buy anything other than Heinz for my house and it is my favorite ketchup.
But, I can’t be the only one that enjoys a different ketchup once or twice a year, right?
One that has a little more of a vinegar taste, or is sweeter or saltier?
It’s sacrilege to say anything against the Pittsburgh-born Heinz company (which is now owned by Kraft and has headquarters in Chicago, as well as Pittsburgh), but it’s nice to have a different kind of French fry or hamburger topping sometimes.
Am I alone in this?
