PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 100.1 FM and AM 1020 KDKA) -- A local man pleaded guilty in federal court to charges of conspiring to set fire to property of an organization that receives federal funding and unlawful interference with a law enforcement officer during civil disorder.
Da’Jon Lengyel, 23, of McKees Rocks pleaded guilty to two counts.
In May, 26-year-old Christopher West, also pleaded guilty for setting the Pittsburgh Police vehicle on fire during the May 30, 2020 protest in downtown Pittsburgh over the death of George Floyd.
During the protest, a protester began vandalizing a Pittsburgh Police vehicle on Centre Avenue. Lengyel and West joined in, jumping up and down on the roof of the vehicle. West also attempted to kick out the window of the car. Shortly after, both men, along with two others who have yet to be identified, set fire to the inside of the car.
Sentencing has been scheduled for October 12, 2021. If found guilty, Lengyel could face 10 years in prison, a fine of $500,000, or both.
