Pittsburgh man pleads guilty to setting fire to police car during George Floyd protest

A Pittsburgh man is facing up to 10 years in prison for setting fire to a Pittsburgh Police vehicle on May 30, 2020 during a protest over the death of George Floyd.

During the protest, 26-year-old Christopher West, co-defendant Da’Jon Lengyel and two other people who have not yet been identified vandalized and eventually set fire to the police vehicle parked on Centre Avenue during the protest.

West pleaded guilty in federal court to conspiring to set fire to property of an organization that receives federal funding and interfering with law enforcement.

According to U.S. Attorney Stephen Kaufman, Da’Jon Lengyel is expected to change his pea to guilty on June 1.

If convicted, the defendants face 10 years in prison, a fine of $500,000 or both.
