A Pittsburgh man, who was acquitted in the 2016 Wilkinsburg mass shooting that killed five people, has been sentenced to eight years in prison following his conviction for possession of a firearm and ammunition by a felon.
US Attorney Stephan Kaufman said 34-year-old Cheron Shelton had a stolen .22 caliber rifle and ammunition in his possession on March 12, 2016, both of which were recovered from his mother's home by Allegheny County Police while investigating the murder of five people in Wilkinsburg that took place on March 9, 2016.
The gun was not used in the mass shooting.
Shelton plead guilty to the firearms charge in December.
