Mayor Ed Gainey has hit pause on a controversial development that would re-invent Oakland.
The Pittsburgh Planning Commission was scheduled to vote Tuesday on a zoning ordinance that would allow Oakland Crossings to move forward.
Instead, Gainey has requested a 30-day continuance on the ordinance for further review and discussion. Oakland Crossings, by Walnut Capital, would be a mixed-use development including a grocery store and walk-to-work housing.
Some have been critical of the plan, feeling officials skipped the proper zoning process and raising concern about the lack of affordable housing in the plan.
