Legislators are proposing more changes following the Fern Hollow Bridge collapse.
State representatives Dan Miller and Natalie Mihalek are making a bipartisan effort to establish a second type-1 urban search and rescue team in the state.
The only team in Pennsylvania is based in Philadelphia, and Mihalek says it took them six hours to respond to the Fern Hollow Bridge Collapse.
"We have the only high-level search and rescue team in Philadelphia. That's a great asset for the state. It's a great asset for the eastern side of our commonwealth. However, Western Pennsylvania should never be in the position where we must wait hours for that team to arrive."
First responders call this the gold standard of search and rescue teams, bigger and deeper than most others in the state.
The bill would form a new type-1 urban search and rescue team in western Pennsylvania, to ensure quicker access to our area.
