One of the few bright spots during this pandemic is the fact that flu cases throughout the state remain incredibly low.
Dr. David Rottinghaus, the Chief Emergency Medical Director for the Butler Health System, was a guest on the KDKA morning show.
"....and still influenza remains absolutely incredibly low. We're still under 3,000 confirmed cases in Pennsylvania for the year", he tells Larry and Kevin., "which is just absolutely unheard of".
On the COVID vaccine front, Dr. Rottinghaus is very pleased with the rollout. He says they will surpass 60-thousand doses as of this week, and over 35-thousand individuals fully vaccinated.
As we slowly get back to some kind of normalcy, Dr. Rottinghaus is urging folks not to forget about getting medical care. He says he's seen lots of cases where people have been neglecting getting regular check-ups and testing due to COVID.
"We've seen, unfortunately, a lot of delay of care, people who get diagnosed with awful diseases, including cancer, you know, months into it as opposed to more immediately" he says. "See your health care provider. Get your well checks, get your screenings".
The case load for COVID-19, meanwhile, is about what it was last spring, he says.
