Open enrollment begins soon for people who buy their health insurance through the Pennsylvania Health Insurance Exchange Authority (Pennie) program. State officials said they don't want the enrollment process to feel like navigating a corn maze.
Pennie executive director, Devon Trolley says notable changes this year include about 15-percent of enrollees losing their federal subsidies. She states,
“But there's an easy fix. Pennie just needs more information from you. All you have to do, starting November 1st, is come in, update your application, and Pennie will be able to restore your premium tax credits and lower your costs for 2027.”
She also says it’s important to update your Pennie account with current income information to avoid being hit with back taxes. Enrollment begins on November 1st and elections need to be made by December 15th for coverage on New Year's Day 2027.
