PITTSBURGH (100.1 FM and AM 1020 KDKA) A recent Pennsylvania Superior Court ruling allows police to pull over a car with a partially blocked license plate.

"Partially blocked" includes small, non-identifiable details like the edges or visitPA.Com printed at the bottom.

A Pennsylvania State Senator plans on fighting the recent ruling with legislation of his own.

Senator Scott Martin from Lancaster County believes that ruling unintentionally put thousands in violation of the law, as things like plate frames or bike racks partially block the plate.

"It was amazing to me how many people had frames around their license plates," Senator Martin said.

Martin is now introducing legislation that would clarify the recent ruling.

"What they [the police] need to do their job is the numbers and letters," Martin said. "What we're going to do is ensure that's solely what it sticks to. And even clarify too for the people who have bike racks."

To push the legislation through at a faster pace, Martin plans on presenting it as an amendment on another transportation bill already on the Senate calendar.

"This will absolutely protect a lot of our motorists' rights."
