Name, image and likeness deals could be headed to high school sports in Pennsylvania.

The PIAA earlier this week presented their initial plan for high school athletes to benefit from NIL. Assistant Executive Director Melissa Mertz says they wanted to be sure they were keeping up.

"You knew it was coming. Several other states are currently considering that language as well. We wanted to be in control of writing the parameters, knowing this is our business, interscholastic athletics, and amateurs. That's why we wanted to get a policy together and get it in front of the board."

There would be some restrictions.

For example, athletes could not appear with references to their school; they also couldn't partner with certain types of companies like alcohol or tobacco.

The PIAA would hire a consultant to educate athletes on becoming involved with NIL deals.
