With the deer population growing, the City of Pittsburgh is partnering with the Department of Agriculture to help cull the animal during the 2023-24 archery season.

The city says that growing population and no natural predators, more deer will lead to car accidents, damage to the ecosystem and “unnatural aggression towards pets and people.

30 hunters in Allegheny County (with Pittsburgh residents given priority) will be picked.

They must also have a clean criminal record and PA Game Commission record.

You also have to buy a 2B Antlerless Tag or already have one.

Selected archers will take an accuracy test. If they pass, they’ll be given a place to hunt.

The city’s website provided program’s stipulations:

There is a zero-tolerance policy. Any hunter who violates the guidelines outlined in this program or commits a game-law felony will result in immediate expulsion from the program Every archer is REQUIRED to take a doe first. This doe must be donated to a food bank program, such as Hunters Sharing the Harvest Absolutely no gutting is allowed on-site The hunts will take place September 16-November 21, Sunday Nov. 12, Nov. 13-18, Sunday Nov. 19, Nov. 20-24 December 26-January 27
