A flood warning is in effect until at least 8 p.m. Friday evening for most of southwestern Pennsylvania.
Thursday's torrential rains led to flooding through the overnight hours. Rainfall reached a record: The National Weather Service says 2.77 inches of rain fell, exceeding the April 11 record by more than an inch.
On Route 51, Pittsburgh EMS and Swiftwater Rescue first responders assisted with a sinking vehicle on the roadway.
Oakdale saw waters get as high as four feet, flooding many businesses and homes in its downtown area along the way.
Fire Crews got right to work this morning and members of the community weren't far behind according to local Gary Laughterbach.
“A lot of people have come down already today to help out and that’s what’s happened in floods in the past, the community love and unity that we have here and I’m sure they have it in most places, that people come down and help the firemen,” said Laughterbach.
High waters were also reported in several communities like Etna and Bridgeville.
A KDKA Radio listener sent us photos of flooding of Chartiers Creek in Upper St. Clair on Boyce and Mayview Roads.
In Armstrong County, The Salvation Army has set up a temporary shelter in South Buffalo Township where people were affected by flooding.
Many around the area are were or are currently still without power.
And the rain isn’t over. AccuWeather’s Dean DeVore tells The Big K Morning Show that another half of an inch of rain is expected to fall, accompanied by strong winds.
