The city will spend nearly two million dollars to repair landslides in Riverview Park.

The biggest chuck of the money, $1 million earmarked in the 2021 budget, will go to repair the Chapel Shelter slide where the side of Riverview Avenue is also collapsing.

Another 800,000 dollars will go toward geo-technical studies in other areas of that North Side park.

The Chapel Shelter slide in Riverview Park has been a sore spot with residents who can't use the area. A section of Riverview Avenue is also sliding away.

"Residents are eager to see the Chapel Shelter landslide and collapsing portion of Riverview Avenue fixed so they can get back to enjoying Riverview Park,” Councilman Bobby Wilson said. “I am relieved the City has been able to maintain this essential funding to move forward with the remediation of the Chapel Shelter landslide, and am thrilled that this administration was able to identify additional funding to address other landslides in the park.”

The money comes from Regional Asset District capital funds earmarked for major parks.
