PITTSBURGH (100.1 FM and AM 1020 KDKA) — The Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh announced on Wednesday that a reported positive case of COVID-19 came with close contact to the Serra Catholic boys varsity and junior varsity basketball teams.
The McKeesport high school is now going virtual.
And practices and games are canceled until Feb. 13.
The school stated that the decision came after someone associated with the team tested positive for COVID-19.
The school itself has been following CDC safety and sanitization guidelines and will continue to do as such.
Families of the students have already been notified of the circumstances.
"We took immediate and decisive action to quarantine members of the boys' basketball program after learning about the positive COVID-19 test result. Serra Catholic will continue to do everything in its power to ensure a safe learning environment for the entire school community," said Tim Chirdon, the Serra Catholic principal.
