Shaler investigating altercation at high school hockey game

According to the PIHL, the Shaler hockey player is now suspended until at least a hearing has taken place.

An altercation between a high school hockey player and a spectator took place at the Alpha Ice Complex last week during a game between Shaler and Latrobe.

A video on social media surfaced from the night of the incident and it shows the Shaler Area High School player run into the stands towards the patron.

The Shaler Area School District released a statement regarding the situation in Harmarville.

"Our administration has been made fully aware of the incident which occurred at a hockey match. The Shaler Area School District stands for a commitment to the highest level of sportsmanship for athletes, coaches and spectators at all District events. We are conducting a thorough investigation and will follow our code of conduct with intentions to ensure that full disciplinary measures are followed for those involved in this altercation."

The PIHL issued a statement to NewsRadio KDKA.

"The PIHL is aware of an incident that occurred during the varsity game between the Shaler Titans and Greater Latrobe Wildcats on Thursday, February 10, 2022, at the Alpha Ice Complex. The PIHL is currently investigating allegations of inappropriate behavior that occurred in the stands involving spectators and players. The PIHL is in contact with school administrations, coaching staffs, players, referees, game officials and members of the hockey community to determine the facts related to the incident and will meet to assess what type of disciplinary action is warranted. Providing a safe environment for our member organizations and players to participate in interscholastic hockey will always be our primary purpose. Any actions by spectators or players that jeopardizes or infringes upon the ability of our players to participate in interscholastic hockey in a safe environment will not be tolerated."

It remains unclear what led to the incident.
