Allegheny County's District Attorney is ready to act against a South Side bar.
Stephen Zappala said he's set to file a petition to have Capos, on the 1400 block of East Carson Street, declared a nuisance bar.
The recent case where a woman who had been there was thrown out of the bar, and then raped, was the last straw.
Zappala says with college students returning, it's time to act.
“They’re encouraging young people to come to the South Side, Capos is, that’s not good,” said Zappala. “If these kids come down here and get themselves jammed up at an early age, it could ruin the rest of their lives. Obviously, we do not want that to happen, we’re going to do everything we can to prevent that.”
He also addressed concerns about two other bars, but said he's not yet ready to act against them, but added the City of Pittsburgh could if it wanted to.
He says instead, he will talk to the landlord about the bar "Linx," whose lease is set to expire in two months to share his concerns. And regarding noise complaints about Twelve Whiskey by its neighbors, he wants to talk to its owners to address those concerns before acting.
Zappala had hoped to be joined at Cupka's 2 by various other elected officials, but they weren't there.
Zappala said the suspect in that case, Larry Pappy Johnson is seen on multiple cameras raping the victim.
The criminal complaint says she never knew what happened because of how intoxicated she was.
A suspect charged with rape in the incident at Capo’s earlier this month was taken into custody Thursday morning in New York.
