Do you have a horse that you think would make a good police horse? The Pennsylvania State Police may want to speak with you.
They're currently seeking horse donations for their mounted patrol.
Ideal horse candidates are:
Geldings
Between 5 and 15 years of age
Between 16 hands (5' 4" at shoulder) and 18 hands tall
Preferred breed: draft and draft-crosses
The State Police says thoroughbreds are ess desireable. In addition, the horses need to have a quiet disposition and free of stable vices.
A total of 28 horses makes up the mounted patrol, which is deployed throughout the state for crowd control, searches, patrolling remote areas in addition to parades and community events.
When a horse retires from the State Police, a new home is found for the animal if the original owner does not wish to take it back.
Since 2015, 12 horses have been donated.
