Wawa is reportedly in the early planning stages of moving into the area. If they do open a location in State College, it will be the furthest west the Philadelphia-area-based chain has established a store in Pennsylvania.

Sharon Royer, Benner Township secretary and treasurer tells The Centre Daily the Wawa would open “right across from Sheetz on Benner Pike.”

It’s early in the planning and development for the location that could open in 2025.

If so, it would mark the first time that Sheetz and Wawa are going one-on-one against each other, at least in the state of Pennsylvania.

When traveling in the commonwealth, normally, if you’re on the western side of the state, it’s Sheetz, east, it’s Wawa.

State College makes the most sense for the battle of the biggest convenience chains since many Pittsburghers and Philadelphia residents both call State College home during their college years.

The first Wawa opened in 1964 in Polson, near Philadelphia.

Sheetz began in 1952 in Altoona, where its headquarters is still located today.

Both chains are famous for their food menu, coffee and more.
