PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – After nearly a month on the free agent market, running back James Conner has found a new home.

The former Steeler and Pitt All-American has signed a one-year deal with the Arizona Cardinals.

Conner is visited with the Arizona Cardinals on Monday.

He’s just the latest Steeler to play in Pittsburgh-west.

Several former Steelers have made their way to Arizona over the years, including Larry Foote, Bryan McFadden, Deshea Townsend, Alan Faneca, Clark Haggans, Joey Porter, Marcus Gilbert, even Joe Greene (not as a player).

Conner is coming off 721 yards, a 4.3 average, 6 touchdowns and another 215 yards on 35 receptions out of the backfield.  The Erie native named to the Pro Bowl after the 2018 seasons—215 attempts, 973 yards, 55 receptions, 497 yards with 13 combined touchdowns.

He will compete with Chase Edmunds (a Harrisburg native who went to Fordham, 850 combined yards and 5 touchdowns in 2020) for carries.

NFL Network says Conner had a procedure to repair a “minor turf-toe-type” and should be fully recovered by June.

Conner won’t be expected to be the “bell cow” in Arizona so he could thrive in that type of environment and gives him a better chance at staying injury-free.
