ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - St. Louis can often be found ranked high among the most deadly, dangerous and violent cities in America, but not in this new study. The city wasn't included among the 50 most dangerous metro areas in the U.S.

The study was by 24/7 Wall St. and it FBI’s 2020 Uniform Crime Report (UCR). It says most metro areas saw a rise in crime last year, with a surge in homicides. Although the St. Louis set a new city record for homicides (286) had the highest murder rate in the U.S. (87 per 100,000 people), it didn't crack the top 50 of 24/7 Wall St.'s list.
The "winner" was Memphis, with the second highest homicide rate than any U.S. metro area. Editors at 24/7 Wall St. say St. Louis didn't make the list because the murder rate is a different measure from "dangerous," according to WREG in Memphis.
Here's the top 5 with its violent crime rate, according to the study:
5. Detroit - 1,088 per 100,000 people
4. Pine Bluff, Arkansas - 1,098 per 100,000 people
3. Anchorage, Arkansas - 1,171 per 100,000 people
2. Monroe, Louisiana - 1,309 per 100,000 people
1. Memphis - 1,359 per 100,000 people
St. Louis had a violent crime rate of 1,995 per 100,000, according to a study by Detroit News which says it also used FBI data. It found Memphis (2,418.24 per 100,000 people) also had the highest violent crime rate, following by Detroit (2,248.44), St. Louis (1,995.17), Little Rock (1,805.11) and South Bend, Indiana (1,706.09).
